NieR: Automata – Upgrading Your Weapons to Level 4

Recommended Videos

In NieR: Automata, every weapon can be upgraded up to four times. However, the regular weapon sellers in the Resistance Camp and Pascal’s Village can only upgrade your stuff up to level 3. After reaching level 3 with any weapon, the vendors will give you hints about a Master Swordsmith, and tell you that he’s the only one who can help unlock your weapon’s true potential.

We’ve made a separate guide detailing exactly how to find the Master Swordsmith, and you can check it out here.

Do note that taking your weapons to level 4 can be pretty expensive, and it will require you to dish out a bunch of rare materials like Meteorite and Meteorite Shards. Thankfully, completing the Half-Wit Inventor side mission will unlock a new vendor that sells a regular supply of Meteorite Shards (though these can get pretty pricey too), so the upgrading process won’t be too much of a grind.

Upgrading your weapons to the max level will unlock the full weapon story for that piece of gear, and you’ll finally get to read the often tragic and depressing history behind that weapon you’ve been swinging around.
