Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord is a deep role-playing experience with quite a few different mechanics to learn. None of them are too complex, honestly, but because there aren’t really any interactive tutorials in the game, it can feel a little confusing. A good example is how and where to get involved with smithing in the game, a process required to refine useful resources. Here’s how to get charcoal in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord.
How to Get Charcoal in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord
So, you’ve started your adventure across Caldaria and reached a point where you’re wanting to upgrade weapons and armor. But where or how do you get charcoal, an ingredient that’s required for most of the higher tier weapons in the game?
As you might have guessed from the above introduction, charcoal is something you’ll need to refine from other material at a smithy. Specifically, it comes from hardwood, a material that is abundant at pretty much any major settlement in the game.
Once you have your Hardwood, visit a city and access the smithy from the settlement menu.
Once at the smithy, click on “Refine” and you’ll be presented with several different materials that can be made by breaking down others. Only the materials available to you will be available to select, and if you’ve bought the hardwood then charcoal will be one of them.
Here’s a step-by-step breakdown:
- Charcoal is made by refining x2 hardwood from the smithy. So, first things first, purchase at least x2 hardwood from any large settlement — obviously, the more you purchase, the more charcoal can be made.
- Visit a smithy after you have purchased the hardwood (also at any large settlement), then access the “Refine” tab (pictured above).
- Refine as much charcoal as you require. Done.
