Mass Effect: Andromeda Is “Softcore Space Porn,” Apparently

This is no troll job (no pun intended — OK, pun totally intended).

BioWare has always made relationships, including sexual ones, between the player-character and other party members a focal point of its Mass Effect series, but the developer is now set to push the envelope further than ever with next month’s Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Noting on Twitter that the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) gave Andromeda a “full nudity” descriptor where the game’s predecessors had only “partial nudity” descriptors,” BioWare GM Aaryn Flynn called the game “totally softcore space porn.”

If that sounds like a bit of good-natured Twitter joking at first glance, know that Flynn says it is not. When a fan said it wasn’t clear whether the developer was trolling Mass Effect fans or not, Flynn set him straight: “Oh, I’m not.”

The ESRB has actually yet to confirm what its final rating for Mass Effect: Andromeda will be, though if there is anything even approaching softcore porn in the game, an M for Mature rating with the aforementioned full nudity descriptor does indeed seem likely.

This isn’t the first time the Andromeda team has talked up the game’s sexual encounters. Just last month, Producer Michael Gamble stated that players could have sex with “so many” of their party members and asserted that “the banging” would be “pretty good.”

Fans will have to wait until the game’s release on March 21 to see just how close BioWare’s latest sci-fi RPG comes to featuring actual softcore space porn with pretty good banging.
