Every year since Super Bowl 38 in 2004, EA Sports runs a simulation of the two teams in the Super Bowl using a copy of the latest Madden NFL game. The developer pits the two teams in a CPU vs. CPU game and records the results. The actual results of the simulation to the real game have been mixed over the last few years.

Madden NFL 16 predicted a 27-24 Carolina Panthers win over the Denver Broncos last year, but the Broncos won 24-10. The Madden NFL 15 simulation accurately picked the winner and final score of Super Bowl 49, with the Patriots beating the Seattle Seahawks 28-24.

Super Bowl 51 takes place Sunday, Feb. 5 at 6:30 pm ET in Houston, Texas. In related news, Nintendo released an extended version of its Super Bowl commercial early, showing off the Switch and brief glimpses of games already announced for the system.
