Horizon Zero Dawn: How to Get a Critical Hit

How to Get a Critical Hit – Horizon Zero Dawn

Recommended Videos

Taking on the machines in Horizon Zero Dawn can be some pretty tough business. Not only can they drain your health bar with nothing more than a few swipes, but they can also really soak up the damage you deal out. As such, you’ll want to make the most of every attack. In order to do this, you’ll want to be able to perform a critical hit to really capitalize on a successful ambush.

In order to actually be able to perform a critical hit in Horizon Zero Dawn, you’ll first need to unlock it. Fortunately, you can unlock the skill as soon as you level Aloy up once. The skill is called critical hit and belongs to the Brave Skill group.

Now that you have the skill unlocked, head into battle and start dealing damage. At times in combat, you may find that after you deal significant damage to an enemy or land a hit on a weak point that they’ll fall to the ground. If you see a triangle of three stars appear in a circle next to the machine’s health bar, make your way over to it quickly.

Where you have to be positioned on the machine depends on each one, but it’s normally toward the head of the machine. When you’re in the right position, you’ll get an R1 button prompt to land a critical hit on the machine. A critical hit normally deals about 150-200 points of damage, which is more than enough to take down most smaller machines.

That’s all you need to know to get a critical hit in Horizon Zero Dawn. For more tips, tricks, and information, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki guide.
