Speech check failed.
Those of you who tuned in to the Oscars will no doubt have been left with your jaw on the floor after it was incorrectly announced that La La Land won the Academy Award for best picture. The award for best picture was in fact given to Moonlight.
The cast and crew were already all on stage by the time the mistake was realised and they had to hand over their awards to the cast and crew of Moonlight. The presenters of the award, Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty had been given the wrong envelope and announced La La Land rather than Moonlight.
This may have been a terribly awkward moment for those present but the official Fallout Twitter account appears to know what really happened. It seems the presenters had tried to attempt a speech check but apparently needed to put more skill points into charisma.
[Speech, 25%] La La Land <Lie.>
[Speech, 75%] The Arrival <Lie.>

Those who have played the Fallout games will know that players can lie in conversations, provided their character’s charisma is high enough to get away with such smooth talking. It’s not all bad news for La La Land, the film did win several Oscars including best director, best song, and best production design.
