Amazon Game Studios Reassures Players that They’re Clamping Down on New World Bot Accounts

Over the past month or so, Amazon Game Studios’ pirate-themed MMORPG New World has been plagued by a number of issues. This includes dupe glitches surfacing because of server transfers and other bugs in the game, forcing the dev team to completely shut down the economy, resulting in un-upgraded towns and halting progress.

To make matters worse, the game has also recently seen a surge in bot activity, where bot accounts are camping some of the more popular resource gathering spots in the game to farm for materials. Considering that resources are not unique to players, and that they must compete with each other to farm them, bot activity means that their progress has been slowed down considerable.

In a statement to Kotaku, Amazon Game Studios reassured fans that they’re definitely aware of increased bot activity in the game and are working hard on banning them as quickly as possible.

“We’re aware of player reports about increased bot activity in New World. Bots pose a persistent challenge for MMOs, and our team has deployed dedicated resources and tooling to identify and combat them. We are committed to continuous improvement in our fight against bots, and yesterday alone, we banned over 7,700 accounts for using bots. Our goal is to ensure New World is fun and fair for all players. We’ll post updates to the New World forums and Twitter as we have them.”
