Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for the Nintendo Switch was announced at the Nintendo Switch Event on Thursday night in a short trailer below. During the livestream, the game was referred to as Xenoblade 2 for Japan, but will be named Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for North America.
Not much was shown in the announcement trailer, but the game is being developed by Monolith Soft. The studio worked on previous Xenoblade games, such as Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii and Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U. The studio also worked on the Xenosaga franchise before acquired by Nintendo in 2008.
The trailer showcased different locales such as forests, sky towns, and a gigantic, ominous tree overlooking the distance to end the trailer. The game seems to retain the locations and wide, open spaces of the previous titles. No release date for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was given in the trailer or during the Nintendo Switch event.
