State of Decay 2
State of Decay was a huge surprise hit that launched on Xbox Live Arcade back in 2013, combining elements of a simulation game and third-person shooter. The title, published by Microsoft Game Studios, dropped you smack dab into the middle of a zombie apocalypse, tasking you with choosing a starting building and then fortifying it to survive.
Part of what made State of Decay so unique was how you had to balance food, medicine, ammo, construction materials and more during your experience. There were also 150 NPCs in the game, most of which you could recruit to help defend your base and build your settlement. Of course, killing hordes of zombies was still the main focus.
At this point, we don’t know a ton about State of Decay 2, but Undead Labs has promised that the title is going to be even bigger. Gameplay in the sequel revolves not just around a single character, but the community that you build. Each character has their own unique background, story, skills, and traits. You’ll need to take full advantage of each member in your community to succeed. State of Decay 2 also features up to four-player co-op for the first time in the series.
Since the Xbox One version released, the original State of Decay has sold over 2 million copies, which is no small feat. With an even bigger and more interconnected world, the sequel has the potential to be something truly memorable.
