Kamiya is ready to keep on creating.
This week brought the cancellation of the highly anticipated Scalebound, an Xbox One and PC exclusive from PlatinumGames and Hideki Kamiya. Following the news, and without an explanation from the developer, word began circulating that Kamiya was taking time off for his mental health.
Kamiya certainly disagrees. The designer took to Twitter today to send out his first message to fans since the cancellation news.
“As you may have already heard, Scalebound has unfortunately been canceled,” he shared. “I’m very sorry to everyone who was looking forward to this game.”
“Sorry to bring you such bad news at the start of the year. All I can do for you is to promise to keep delivering fun games. I’ll work extra hard to never have to let you down like this again, so I hope you will keep watching over us in the future too.”
Kamiya then thanked fans for their supportive messages, and had this to say about recent rumors:
And…I took time off for my mental health? …Me!?

Platinum has also released an official statement regarding Scalebound, though it doesn’t clear up much about the reasoning behind the cancellation. Xbox head Phil Spencer similarly chimed in earlier, simply saying that the decision was difficult, but that it was best for Xbox players.
