In the brand new Nightmare mode, players will once again take control of the brave and willful cameraman Clancy Javis as he tries to survive against a horde of Molded, and a handful of bosses. Listed below are a few quick tips to help you escape the nightmare (haha).

Buy the shotgun and handgun: These two weapons are your bread and butter in Nightmare mode. The shotgun can easily one-shot the Molded enemies during the first hour with a well-placed headshot. If you have good aim, you can also rely on the handgun to make quick work of your foes.

Activate all the compactors: One of the first things you should do is activate all the compactors in the room. There’s one in the starting room, and another one in the room with the plastic bags. Once you’ve accumulated enough Scrap, buy some corrosive to open the locked door next to the starting room for another compactor. Each compactor can only hold up to 1000 Scrap, so make sure to collect your loot regularly. The compactors stop working when the final boss for each hour arrives, so be sure to collect everything you can.

Use points to unlock Nightmare bonuses: You’ll earn points for killing enemies and surviving an hour. If you can’t clear the mode in your first attempt, don’t forget to use your accumulated points to purchase special bonuses that will give you a starting advantage in the Nightmare mode. Having more starting Scrap, for instance, will make the later hours easier to get through.

Upgrade your skills: Aside from buying healing items and ammunition, you can also use Scrap to upgrade skills like your reload speed, damage, and even health pool. These won’t make much of a difference in the first couple of hours, but they’ll be invaluable in the final stages of Nightmare mode. Make sure to set aside Scrap for upgrades.
