Resident Evil 7: How Long it Is to Beat

Instead of chapters, Resident Evil 7’s story is broken up more by specific areas and encounters that make up how long it is. The story continues on smoothly between the areas through a vast majority of the game, allowing you to revisit at your leisure in order to uncover more secrets.

Guest House – This is where you first start the game, and is the same area as the Beginning Hour demo. Although, several components are different such as the enemies you encounter in this horrifying space. The guest house serves as the prologue of the game, introducing you to the game’s mechanics and your first glimpse at what to expect from the crazed inhabitants of the Baker house.

Baker House – This is the main home where the Baker family lives. You’ll recognize the first area you find yourself in from the demos, as it’s the dining room where you see the entire family eating a nasty dinner in front of you. The first quarter of the game is spent solving puzzles here as you fight to escape the house. It consists of three levels that include a basement full of terrifying rooms. Jack Baker, the patriarch of the Baker clan, is the main threat in this area.

Courtyard and Old House – The second major area will place you outside of the house, but not off of the property. Here you’ll find the trailer which will serve as a sort of safe hub for you, as well as entry to three different areas. The first of these areas you will be set to explore is the Old House which was severely damaged by a storm, so nobody lives in it. It’s full of insect-like enemies – which you don’t encounter anywhere else – as well as the threat of Marguerite, Jack’s wife who really hates when people try to leave.

Greenhouse – The greenhouse is home to a major boss encounter, though it serves little purpose outside of that. You will have to briefly explore this area in order to fully deal with all of the Old House objectives. There aren’t any enemies here outside of the boss, but it is terrifying.

Baker House Revisited – You’ll have to go back to the crazy home to continue the story. Thanks to keys and other items you obtained outside, you will now be granted further access to the property to continue.

Testing Area – This is actually a part of the property that has been converted into a sort of game show full of traps and other deadly bits. It’s run by Lucas, the Baker’s son.

Boathouse – There isn’t much exploration here, just a large boss encounter (one of the tougher ones). This marks the beginning of the end, cutting off free exploration as the story ramps up.

Ship – A large tanker that was crashed into the swamp nearby they Baker estate. The threat plaguing the area, that you’ve witnessed many times by this point, originated from someone on that ship. You must explore it to find out what’s the cause of everything as well as save someone important.

Lab/Mines – These next two areas are all part of the same portion of the story. You’ll delve into the mines near the Baker estate to uncover more clues about the game’s biggest threat as well as a means to finish the nightmare.

The Guest House – It ends where it all began.
