Q1 PS4 Exclusives

horizon-zero-dawn_2016_10-18-16_004

There are a few console exclusives on this list meaning these are games that can be found on PC but will only appear on gaming consoles on the PS4. They will be noted by “also on PC.”

The first quarter of 2017 (Jan. – Mar.) is packed with some big exclusives for the PS4 including first party offerings, some strong third party support, and even some indies you should definitely keep your eyes out for. The biggest first party game of the quarter is undoubtedly Horizon Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games. It’s very different from what the studio is known for and is using the brand new Decima engine which the studio is also allowing Kojima Productions to use for Death Stranding. Horizon Zero Dawn will not just show what Guerrilla can do with a different genre, but also give us our first glimpse as to what we can expect from the engine. Gravity Rush 2 releases ahead of Horizon, though, and brings the sequel to a fan-loved Vita title to the PS4.

For third party exclusives, you have some heavy hitters such as Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue from Square Enix. Kingdom Hearts 2.8 brings not only an HD remaster of Dream Drop Distance but also a brand new experience that will link to the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts III. Also from Square Enix is Nier: Automata, an action RPG full of beautiful backdrops, fast-paced combat, and impossibly large bosses. Nioh, a Souls-like game from Team Ninja is also looking to impress with its tight action and terrifying foes.

For indie offerings, you have Night in the Woods which puts you in the center of a mystery surrounding your animal town. There’s also Birthdays the Beginning which tasks you with forming worlds and developing life as a god of your own little universe.
