Square Enix will be developing a new RPG for the Nintendo Switch after all, and it’s called Project Octopath Traveler. We didn’t get a lot of details about the game, but it does look like a 2D side-scroller style title with traditional RPG elements. The game utilizes 2D sprites as the player character travels around a new medieval fantasy world and battles monsters. Combat looks to be turn-based, just like the old-school Final Fantasy titles of yore.
Another thing of note is the game’s art style. The artwork, in general, looks charming and harkens back to games like Tactics, Crystal Chronicles, and other Square Enix titles that have had their art direction handled by Akihiko Yoshida. We’ll be sure to update this post later with the short gameplay teaser from the Switch livestream presentation.
There’s no release date for Project Octopath Traveler, but we’ll keep you updated with more details as they come our way.
