“I know we have to take risks.”
After the recent cancellation of Microsoft and Platinum Games’ Xbox One and PC exclusive Scalebound, Phil Spencer came out and said that the decision was ultimately one that was “better for Xbox gamers.”
Spencer has also written today on Twitter (via DualShockers) and vowed that Scalebound’s cancellation will not stop Microsoft from taking “risks” with the games that it chooses to green-light in the future.
“I know we have to take risks, I realize right now probably sounds hollow but I agree,” Spencer said in response to fan questions on Twitter.
Spencer also said that the cancellation of Scalebound isn’t going to stop Microsoft from signing with third-party games in the future. He also emphasized the importance of first-party internal projects:
@DevinKyleO I won't abandon signing independent studio projects but I agree 1st party internal studios are critical.

In a personal moment, Spencer expressed his own sadness at Scalebound’s cancellation: “It hurt me as well and to the community I apologize. I want everything we start to turn out great, to take risks, create diversity.”
