Just gotta stand around.
Despite his appearance in the mysterious Death Stranding and his known friendship with Kojima, Guillermo del Toro will only be an actor in Kojima’s latest project, according to an interview done by IGN.
“I’m involved as a character. Kojima-san called me and said, ‘I want you to be a character in the game,’ and I said, ‘Gladly,'” said del Toro. “He’s discussed his ideas so I could understand the character, but other than that I’m not involved, creatively, at all.”
He goes on to say, “This is entirely Kojima-san’s game. I think it’s gonna be a fantastic game, 100%. But this is him and his ideas. I’m just a puppet in his hands. My contribution is limited to being a cheerleader for his ideas and being scanned for long hours at a time. That’s about it.”
Del Toro also talks about the process that helped create a realistic character in the trailers shown at the Games Awards, stating that scanning alone took about seven hours and there had been about three times the amount of cameras one would normally see on set.
Not much is currently known about Death Stranding except for some notable names, like Mads Mikkelsen and Norman Reedus, that are involved. The game does not have a release date as of this article, but it is set to be an action game exclusive to the PS4.
