Get a chance to brave the harsh sea.
Rare has announced a Technical Alpha for their team-based pirate game Sea of Thieves, and you can sign up right now.
The developer is inviting players that join the Sea of Thieves Insider Programme to play the game for themselves and give feedback. The first playtest will kick off on Dec. 16, and there will be more scheduled playtests through the weekend. Though anyone can sign up to be an Insider, the playtests will be limited to only 1000 people, so your chances might be slight.
“This gives us the right scale and experience for our first test, and will allow us to focus closely on the feedback we receive. As we move on through the Technical Alpha phase, we’ll gradually increase the player base and frequency of sessions in line with the game’s evolution,” said executive producer Joe Neate.
Playtesters will be under NDA, which mostly means Rare doesn’t want streams of the game getting out there. We got a chance to sit down with Sea of Thieves at E3 earlier this year, and the results were a drunken good time.
“Standing in a booth and meeting four other strangers you have to play a cooperative game with can sound a little daunting, but any nervousness you might feel dissipates within seconds of the tomfoolery that goes down in the pirate shack where you gather before boarding your ship,” said Zhiqing Wan.
