Tonight, at the Game Awards, Nintendo of America head Reggie Fils-Aime showed up on stage to reveal more footage from the upcoming Legend of Zelda title, Breath of the Wild. After a brief opening from Eiji Aonuma (who couldn’t attend the show), the demo got underway with a pair of demo players.
The Breath of the Wild demo kicks off with Link, on a quest to find a shrine, where he meets a minstrel named Cass and listens to a jaunty tune. Once that’s done, he begins exploring the forest area before he comes across enemies. The pair of players give Link some new clothes and snacks (“party fried greens,” they’re called), before sending him off to a cave, where things don’t go as planned and he dies.
After switching players, the second experience goes much better, with a stealth approach by picking off enemies one by one with the bow. Link approaches an area before being attacked by an enemy with chameleon powers. He’s able to fight it off, then uses a piece of the enemy to throw at another and break it. Link manages to take down the big bad guy of them all, but the two players stop the Breath of the Wild demo before our hero can claim the glowing reward that awaits him.
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild hits the Nintendo Switch and WiiU next year. Stay tuned to Twinfinite for more news from the Game Awards.
