December might be lighter on new games, but it has plenty of something else: Awards! It’s Game of the Year and end of year awards season here at Twinfinite, and over the next couple of weeks we will be dishing out all kinds of recognition to what we think were the best games this year across a plethora of exciting categories. What are those categories you ask? We are so glad you asked. Here are the nominations for some of our biggest and best awards, along with a run down of all the awards we will be dishing out this year. Enjoy!

Game of the Year – You know what this is. Twinfinite’s highest honor goes to a game that excelled in most, if not all areas that matter to gamers and stands out the most in a crowded field of great games.

Developer of the Year – All of these developers provided memorable new gaming experiences this year, but one get our honor of developer of the year.

Best Console Exclusive – The best game that was a console exclusive to one platform in 2016, and offered a unique experience that is hard to find anywhere else (PC ports are permitted).

  • Uncharted 4
  • Forza Horizon
  • Ratchet and Clank

Best Handheld/Mobile Exclusive – The best games exclusive to either the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and/or smartphone operation systems (PC ports are permitted).

  • Clash Royale
  • Pokemon Sun and Moon
  • Fire Emblem Fates
  • Zero Time Dilemma
  • Monster Hunter: Generations
  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice

Best First Person Shooter – The overall best FPS experience this year including gameplay and campaign/narrative if applicable.

  • Battlefield 1
  • Overwatch
  • Titanfall 2
  • Doom

Best Action/Adventure – Games that best blended action with heavy use of elements such as exploration, stealth, and/or puzzle solving.

  • Dishonored 2
  • Uncharted 4
  • Ratchet and Clank
  • The Division
  • The Last Guardian

Best Role Playing Game – Whether it’s action focused, traditional, or strategy based, this award goes out the best RPG experience of the year.

  • Final Fantasy XV
  • Dark Souls III

  • I Am Setsuna
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X
  • Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE
  • Fire Emblem Fates

Best Indie Game –  Best independently developed game.

Best Puzzle Game – Best title whose gameplay is driven primarily by puzzle solving.

Best Multiplayer Experience – The game that delivered the most comprehensive and fun multiplayer experience this year.

Best Strategy/Simulation Game – Best games within the strategy (turn-based and/or RTS) and simulation genres.

Best Open World Game – This goes out to games that contained the most immersive and enjoyable to explore open worlds.

Best Narrative – The game that featured the best and most engrossing story line/narrative this year.

Best PlayStation 4 Game – Best game to come out exclusively for the PlayStation 4.

Best Xbox One Game – Best game to come out exclusively for the Xbox One.

Best Nintendo Game – Best game to come out exclusively for a Nintendo platform.

Best Voice Acting – This goes out a voice actor that had the best performance in 2016.

Best New Hardware – This award goes to best new video game related hardware that was fully released in 2016.

Publisher of the Year – This goes to a publisher that helped bring to life the best content of this year.

Best New IP – The best game that not only made its debut in 2016, but has the brightest future as a franchise going forward.

Best DLC/Expansion – The best add-on, DLC, or expansion released in 2016.

Best Breakout Developer – This goes out to a studio or a developer that made the best first impression in 2016.

Best VR Game – This goes to the best VR gaming experience of the year.

 

Winners will be announced starting Dec. 19, culminating in our final GOTY awards on Dec. 22. Stay tuned!
