Let’s get the most obvious one out the way, shall we? July’s scorching hot weather wasn’t the only reason tons of people made their way outside and spent hours upon hours exploring the world, a large portion of that was due to Pokemon GO. Tasking people with catching the original 151 Pokemon using the Augmented Reality functionality of their smartphones, GO quickly became a worldwide phenomenon.
It wasn’t just about catching the Pokemon, either. Local landmarks were turned into Gyms which players would battle for with other team members to help take control of it. Even though the hype has most definitely calmed since its initial release, GO still brought the pocket monsters right back into the cultural spotlight. And with the next generation of Pokemon expected to be released in the coming months, you can only expect it to happen all over again very soon.
