Who could say no to free?
The team-based multiplayer shooter Paladins has now surpassed 4 million players on PC, developer Hi-Rez Studios announced today. In a Steam news post, the company claims the game has become “one of the most popular games on Steam.”
According to Steam game stats, the free to play game is sitting in the top 15 games by total player count at the time of this writing. Paladins launched into open beta on Steam on Sept. 16.
“The worldwide response to Paladins has been incredible,” Todd Harris, Chief Operating Officer of Hi-Rez Studios, said in a statement. “It has been thrilling to see the game grow week-over-week since the Steam Open Beta began in mid-September, as well as to hear all of the player feedback, which we are constantly using to improve the game.”
Paladins is currently in open beta on PC through Steam Early Access, and a closed beta is planned for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime in the future. A version for the Chinese market is also planned through a partnership with Tencent. The Chinese investment holding company owns League of Legends developer Riot Games, and has shares in Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.
