Overwatch’s Graphic Novel is Canceled, But Blizzard Still Plans on Telling That Story “at Some Point”

Overwatch fan fiction

Boooooooooooo.

Earlier this year, Blizzard announced that Overwatch would receive a graphic novel called First Strike that would tell the story of the early days of team members Torbjorn, Reinhardt, Gabriel Reyes (Reaper), and Jack Morrison (Soldier: 76). Sadly, lead writer for the game Michael Chu announced on the forums that First Strike was now canceled.

According to Chu, the core of the story remains, but Blizzard “have changed and expanded upon how we see the events that took place during the first days of Overwatch.” The graphic novel was intended to be published by Dark Horse due out in April 2017. While the news is disappointing, Chu did thank the fans for their enthusiasm for the entire universe, and said that even though this project is scrapped, it’s a story “we still plan to tell.”

The graphic novel was one of two Overwatch books to be published by Dark Horse. The second, a large hardcover art book for the game, is still planned to release in summer 2017.
