Variety reports the planned Mortal Kombat film reboot by New Line is moving forward, with the project allegedly having found its director.
It’s a bit of an abstract choice to direct a well-known video game adaptation, but director Simon McQuoid is in talks to join the production. McQuoid is best known for directing commercials, and while that will likely make some anxious about the quality and his experience, the award-winning director is widely praised for his engaging directorial style.
Also on board are James Wan as the producer, and Greg Russo, who is currently in the process of working out the final kinks of the script.
Mortal Kombat hasn’t landed a release date yet, but seeing how the project has really picked up steam since its first announcement back in 2009, it’s likely the film isn’t too far off.
