“There are legs to this IP, definitely.”
The Order: 1886 was released early last year as a PlayStation 4 exclusive and was highly anticipated for its steampunk world and incredible graphics. Unfortunately the game didn’t quite live up to expectations and was criticized for its very short campaign and lack of replayability.
There’s no doubting that the world we got to explore and the characters we met were all very compelling, and many players felt that a sequel that learned lessons from the first game could be very good. It seems this sentiment is also felt by the game’s developers as creative director Ru Weerasuriya stated in an interview with Game Informer that the “IP has a future.”
“The best way to answer that without giving anything… how can I say this… Is there a future? Yes. That IP has a future. It’s definitely built in that IP,” he said. “That future is already something that was built from the very get go, from the first day we started working on it. As you know, since you played the game and for the ones who played out there… there is a larger storyline. There is a macro story that keeps going, it’s an IP that is actually bigger than the storylines that we have created. So there are legs to this IP, definitely.”
There’s no doubting that The Order: 1886 was a triumph in some aspects, it just didn’t do as well in other areas. Would you be interested in playing a sequel?
