Hope for the best.
To say that Sonic hasn’t had a good couple of years would be a bit of an understatement. That hasn’t stopped SEGA from putting out game after game, with the recent being Fire and Ice for the 3DS. As far as former SEGA of America CEO Tom Kalinske is concerned, it’s just something that happens with every franchise and character in entertainment.
In the November issue of Game Informer, Kalinske was interviewed about the Blue Blur and said that his fall from grace isn’t anything new. He thinks there’s just “a natural up and down” for any character, and likens it to what we’ve seen with Marvel characters, Barbie, and Star Wars over the years. Still, he’s quite optimistic about the future. Even though he admits that Sonic has had a downward cycle “for a while,” he thinks it’s time for an “upward cycle” to begin again for a good amount of time.
We won’t know for sure until Sonic Mania comes out next year, but our impressions seem to agree with him.
