What Will the Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date Be?

Based on Nintendo’s timeline and unofficial information, the Switch 2 will release in March 2025. The initial speculations included Q3 or Q4 of 2024. However, the most recent report by Nikkei suggests that Nintendo is strategically delaying the release of its newest console so the developers can get extra time to explore the capabilities of the next-gen hand-held console.

Additionally, it would make sense to launch it in March, as that is exactly when the initial Switch was released back in 2017. What’s more, the same happened with Nintendo Wii and Wii U consoles. The former launched on November 19, 2006, while the latter came out on November 18, 2012. So, exactly six years later. Coincidence? I think not.

Also, it’s worth noting that the Nintendo Switch recently celebrated seven years since its release, and there was no announcement regarding the next-gen console. So, it’s reasonable to expect that if they didn’t use such a perfect opportunity for that, then the launch could be far off from now.

All of this is speculation anyway, as Nintendo has been super secretive about this topic. Ultimately, we won’t know anything for certain until they decide to post some concrete information regarding their development of Switch 2.

Speculated Switch 2 Hardware and Games

The Microsoft versus FTC trial suggested that its hardware will lean toward 8th-generation consoles. On the other hand, it may be able to perform like more advanced systems, such as Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

In recent news, a leak has indicated a Bayonetta Trilogy release for the Switch 2, teasing a backward compatibility function. But, of course, Nintendo fans can take these rumors with a grain of salt, as things could change in the future. We do at least know the 2024 game lineup for the current Nintendo Switch, including Princess Peach: Showtime!, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.

Although we don’t have an official release date for the Switch 2, we’ll keep you updated once more information arrives. While you wait, you can check out our dream picks for Nintendo Switch 2 games or explore any of the relevant links below.
