Prequel to Red Dead Redemption
The first trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 didn’t tell us a whole lot about the nature of the game’s story, but the initial teaser art posted by Rockstar on Twitter does give us some hints to go off.
In the art, we see seven cowboy figures standing together in what suggest them to be a team, or more appropriately, a posse. Rockstar has said that RDR2 will have a large multiplayer component, so it’s possible the art alludes to that, but it’d be decidedly un-Rockstar to announce a game with its multiplayer component before its single-player story.
So if we’re assuming the art is indicative of its single-player, then we can begin to wonder about the pictured posse. John Marston, the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption, ran with a gang of outlaws in his past life. Could this group be one of the gangs that he ran with? This theory also assumes that Read Dead Redemption 2 will also star Marston in his younger days. We do see a figure in the trailer that could likely be the game’s protagonist, but it’s impossible to determine if it’s Marston.
If the story is of Marston in his checkered past, will the story follow how he became the career outlaw that made him famous with law enforcement? It’s just a theory, and the idea of prequels with repeat characters somewhat goes against Rockstar’s typical style of introducing new characters in each game.
