Earlier today At EGX in Birmingham, Team 17 and Playtonic Games unveiled a new Yooka-Laylee trailer focusing on the characters in the game.
If you’re not in the loop, Playtonic Games is an ensemble crew of Rare alumni who have come together to revive the 3D Platformer. Yooka-Laylee is a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, both featuring a dual player-character, great music and a charming cartoon world.
Yooka-Laylee is looking amazing, but a key part of any game in the golden age of 3D platformers is a great group of characters. In the video we’re provided with a few interesting animals including Capital B, perhaps the Capital-obsessed antagonist of the game, and Trowzer, a detective snake nestled in some khaki shorts.
The best thing about this excellent character parade is the addition of Shovel Knight, a direct collaboration between Playtonic and Yacht Club games to bring everybody’s favourite gardening tool wielding hero to Yooka-Laylee. Looks like he’ll be voiced in the unique Banjo/Yooka style and will have at least a side quest tied to him.
We won’t have to wait too long either, as the game is currently scheduled to release in March of next year. For more news, keep it locked here at Twinfinite.
