PS4 Pro is Competing with the PC, Not Xbox Scorpio, Says Andrew House

All in the name of graphics.

Andrew House, head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has clarified that the PS4 Pro was not conceived as a reaction to Microsoft’s Xbox Scorpio. Instead, it was made to target players who switch from consoles to PC midway through a console lifecycle to get the best graphical experience.

Speaking to The Guardian, he said, “I saw some data that really influenced me. It suggested that there’s a dip mid-console lifecycle where the players who want the very best graphical experience will start to migrate to PC, because that’s obviously where it’s to be had. We wanted to keep those people within our eco-system by giving them the very best and very highest [performance quality].”

In the interview, House was also asked if the traditional console cycle was coming to an end with the PS4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio. His answer was cautious: “I think that since this is our first foray into this kind of mid-cycle innovation, it’s far too early to call that.”
