The fast-paced fencing sidescroller action is making a return with Nidhogg 2, but it looks a bit different this time around. Developer Messhof announced the sequel will release sometime in 2017, and will be playable this weekend at TwitchCon.
“Messhof is parry excited to announce Nidhogg 2, the videogame sequel so hotly anticipated that you didn’t even know it existed!” the developer writes in a press release. “With charming visuals that are so much better than the first game’s but not so good that you’re nervous to go up and talk to it, Nidhogg 2 is coming to PC and maybe some other platforms in 2017.”
For those that don’t remember, the first game featured characters that where hardly more than different colored, indistinct stick figures.
While more information will be coming in the next few months, Nidhogg 2 is aiming for the same quick, fencing action as the first game, but plans to double down on the formula. Promising both local and online multiplayer tournament modes, the game will also include at least 10 levels, and a single-player mode allowing you to face off against AI opponents while certain rounds include special challenges.
TwitchCon kicks off tomorrow, Sept. 30, and runs through Oct. 2 in San Diego. Nidhogg 2 will take the indie stage on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 5:15 pm PT.
