Well… this is different.
Today saw the reveal of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and while there are plenty of cool new features in the phones, the rumor regarding the headphone jack was indeed true.
It turns out that Apple has opted to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 in order to “move on, and do something new that betters all of us.” They’ve got a vision of how audio experience can be, which includes removing the jack from future phones to save hardware space. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you can’t listen to music on your new iPhone with the additional privacy of headphones. Instead, you’ll just have to use bluetooth headphones or headphones with a lightning connector. Users can also use the lightning to 3.5mm adapter that will come in every iPhone 7 and 7 Plus box, which will provide the experience of having the old headphone jack.
It’s certainly a different approach to smartphone design, but whether or not it’ll work in everyday life is yet to be seen.
