iOS 10: How to Use Bubble Effects

Apple’s new operating system, iOS 10, is now available to download onto your current iPhone and iPad, as well as being pre-installed on the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. iOS 10 brings a bunch of new features to the Messages app too, allowing you to spruce up your communication.

One of these ways is by using different message effects. There are four different ones currently included in iOS 10, ranging from Slam, to Invisible Ink. While slam will quite literally, body slam into the conversation with dust rising from around it, invisible ink requires the receiver to swipe their finger across the pixelated overlay to reveal the message.

In order to use either of these as well as the Loud and Gentle effects, you’ll need to compose an iMessage just as you would normally and then use the force-touch on the blue up arrow. If your device doesn’t have the 3D touch feature, simply hold the send button.

From here, simply select the different effect that you want your message bubble to use. Then simply touch the send button and your message will arrive on your friend’s iOS device with a little more style than usual.

If you’re still having issues with the effects working, it’s probably because you have a setting called Reduce Motion enabled. To disable this go to Settings, General, Accessibility, and then turn off the Reduce Motion option. Now you should see messages acting a little differently in your conversations.
