Nintendo Says Pokemon GO Pushed 3DS to Be the Top Selling System in July

The 3DS shines on?

The Nintendo 3DS, according to the NDP Group’s reports, was the top-selling game system last month, following the release of Pokemon GO. The NDP Group, responsible for reporting all data related to sales of gaming hardware and software nationally and internationally, also reports that Monster Hunter Generations was the best-selling game last month. Additionally, multiple Nintendo 3DS games appeared in the top 10 best-selling games of July: Monster Hunter Generations, Pokmon Omega Ruby, Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, and Kirby: Planet Robobot.

Nintendo attributes this to the craze over Pokemon, as well as price cuts on 3DS bundles and, more specifically, Nintendo 2DS systems:

“The strong performance is in part thanks to the release of the Monster Hunter Generations game, continued momentum from the price drop of the Nintendo 2DS system and widespread positive public reception for the Pokémon GO mobile app, which has renewed interest in core Pokémon games on Nintendo systems.”

Meanwhile, Microsoft previously announced that the Xbox One beat out the PS4 as the top selling system of July. Official NPD reports will release on Monday to confirm which company took the lead after all.
