Pokemon GO Tip: You Should Hold Off on Transferring Weak Pokemon

We know you don't want those Pidgeys, but hold onto them for a second.

Pokemon GO will allow you to catch a lot of basic Pokemon, and we mean a lot. It isn’t uncommon to return home from an exhausting adventure through your city only to find that you’ve captured 37 Pidgeys, 15 Weedles, and a litter of Rattatas. If you’re working on trying to boost any of these up to their final form, then chances are you’ll be looking to transfer these all to that cool-looking professor that started you on your journey. While that seems like the most logical course of action for players looking to stock up on a bit of Candy, we’re here to tell you that you should most definitely hold off for a while.

The reason for this is quite simple, waiting will help you level up a lot faster. Allow us to break it down for you.

Transferring a single Pokemon nets you nothing more than a single Candy. If you have a lot of Pokemon that can surely add up, but why just get Candy when you can have Candy and a ton of XP? For every single Pokemon you catch you will earn three candies that you need in order to boost and evolve that particular family, so if you caught a lot you should be looking like a sweets shop right about now. That means you’ll also most likely be able to evolve more than one Pokemon.

Evolving a Pokemon grants a whopping 500 XP, which is definitely nothing to scoff at. Considering that the only other way to earn this much in one go without the use of items is to catch a Pokemon for the first time, this is most definitely a big deal. Now, when you throw Lucky Eggs into the mix, things really start to become interesting. For those not in the know, a Lucky Egg is an item that doubles the amount of XP you earn for 30 minutes. These Lucky Eggs can be purchased using PokeCoins from the shop or obtained as rewards for leveling your trainer up in Pokemon GO.

So now you have a bunch of common Pokemon, a whole lot of Candy, and a Lucky Egg. It’s time to get to work. Instead of hitting Transfer on all your minions, make sure you’re in an area with good reception and pop the Lucky Egg (bad reception can cause things to not register and you don’t want to waste your 30 minutes). Once the timer starts, you can begin evolving your Pokemon which will net you 1,000 XP for each one. This is a quick and easy way to level up rapidly and requires little work aside from all of the preparation of catching all of those little monsters to begin with.

After you’re done evolving, you can transfer the weaker ones if you still want to, that way you get both the XP bonuses and your Candy. If all goes well, you may earn enough candy to evolve another Pokemon. You may want to do all of this on a day when you’re free to explore as well, that way you can take advantage of the Lucky Egg bonus for things like PokeStops, Gyms, and new captures.

With a bit of self-control, because we all know how addicting that Transfer button can be, you’ll find yourself climbing the level ranks in no time, and in turn unlocking some very useful items for you to use in your endeavors.
