How to Play We Happy Few
We Happy Few is a twisted and downright challenging game that drops players into a dark utopia set in a fictional English town. All around you are smiling faces, but although they depict a facade of happiness, what lies underneath is a world of despair. Those smiles are caused by Joy, a drug that wipes your mind and gives you a sense of euphoria so that you can “live” through the troubled, war-torn world. You, refusing your mandated Joy pill, must escape from the city using any means at your disposal.
Surviving does not come with ease, though. We Happy Few throws all of the usual survival mechanics at you – hunger, thirst, fatigue, scavenging, crafting, stealth, and challenging combat – but it also adds in the need to conform by way of drugs or cleverness. It is not for the feint of heart, but to those who put in the time to learn the intricacies of Wellington Wells, the town where We Happy Few is set, there is a lot to enjoy within the madness.
The basic goal of the game is to escape the town in order to be rid of Joy and everything else that’s wrong with Wellington Wells. To do this, players must figure out how to move around without drawing too much suspicion, while also maintaining their health and gathering all of the supplies they may need. As is the case with many modern games, while the goal may seem simple, there is always something to make it all challenging.
