Pokemon GO Devs Remind Players to be “Safe and Alert”

Take caution while catching 'em all.

Since the launch of Pokemon GO on mobile devices last week, everyone’s been having a ton of fun capturing Pokemon and interacting with each other at Pokestops and Gyms. However, the app has also been used for more sinister purposes. Some app users have used the Lure Modules to attract surrounding players to secluded Pokestops and robbed them, and there’s also been an incident where a teenager discovered a corpse while searching for Pokemon.

Niantic is well aware of the real world dangers brought about by Pokemon GO, and have given a safety statement to VentureBeat.

“We are aware that some incidents have occurred involving fans playing Pokémon Go,” The Pokémon Company and developer Niantic told GamesBeat in a joint statement. “We encourage all people playing Pokémon Go to be aware of their surroundings and to play with friends when going to new or unfamiliar places. Please remember to be safe and alert at all times. We are humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response to Pokémon Go and greatly appreciate the support of our fans.”

Simply put, be careful when you’re using the app, and always remember to look around you when out and about.
