Overwatch and eSports are coming your TV screen.
ELeague and FACEIT have announced that qualifying matches for their international Overwatch Open Tournament will start tomorrow. Overwatch players from North America and Europe will be playing for a prize pool of $300,000.
You’ll be able to watch the qualifier matches live on the tournament’s official Twitch page which will run until the playoffs. The playoffs will run from Aug. 26-28 and the winners will go on to the Regional Finals. The North American Regional Finals will be played on Sept. 25 and 26, while the European regionals will take place on Sept. 28 and 29. The first place winners of these Regionals will then take each other on the in the grand finals on Sept. 30 for a $100,000 prize, while second place will take home $32, 000.
What makes this esports tournament a little interesting however is that the grand tournament will be broadcast on TBS as well as on Twitch.
Over on the Overwatch Open official website, Michele Attisani, the Chief Business Officer of FACEIT, said that “Overwatch is an exciting new game with thrilling and expertly-balanced action that makes it perfect for competitive play,” and that “We are confident that our capabilities as a platform and knowledge as a media partner will make this an exciting tournament for fans.”
