Resident Evil 7’s Protagonist Will Be New and Not a “Macho Superhero”

Resident Evil

Take a break, Kennedy and Redfield.

Resident Evil 7 is the next installment in the long running franchise, and it’s accumulated a lot of characters over its run. If you expected that an established character like Leon S. Kennedy or Chris Redfield (protagonists of the previous three mainline gameswould be the focus of this new title, that’s not going to be the case here. Capcom producer Masachika Kawata said that the new hero will be someone totally new, and not a “macho superhero”, but also not completely helpless.

In the presentation shown at Sony’s E3 presser, the character wasn’t identified by name, and not much else is known about them. Given that they’ll be in a plantation mansion and trying to escape the zombies within, it’s possible that they’re either someone who’s managed to survive a zombie outbreak before, or at least knows a thing or two about getting their hands dirty. Either way, best of luck to that brave soul.

Resident Evil 7 comes to the PS4, PC, and Xbox One on January 24, 2017.
