One of the biggest surprises during Bethesda’s E3 conference this year was the announcement of another Prey game. Unlike Skyrim, Fallout, or Doom, Prey is a far less known title and really only has one game in the “series.” The original game released back in 2006 to fairly positive reviews and was developed by 3D Realms, yet it’s never received a proper follow up. That doesn’t mean there haven’t been attempts, as the most notable came in 2011 with the release of a Prey 2 trailer during E3.
For those who unaware, Prey 2 was a major departure from the original title, as the first one wasn’t focused around being a bounty hunter or set in a cyber-punk world. Though that didn’t mean that this Prey game wasn’t going to have ties to the first one or any of the characters. In a demo showcase, it was revealed that the main protagonist of the first game, Tommy, was slated to be a part of the main story. Sadly Prey 2 was canceled in 2014 by Bethesda due to it not reaching their quality standards.
So here we are, with a new Prey game set to release sometime in 2017 one cannot help but draw comparisons to the previously canceled game. These are two wildly different games that are only really connected by name alone. However, was the original idea for Prey 2 better or is it something more?
