Gears of War 4
Gears 4 is easily Microsoft’s biggest and most important game of the fall season, and of course it would be at E3. The shooter series has always been a good showcase of the Xbox’s action-oriented lineup, and the multiplayer beta a few months back was immensely popular. But we still didn’t know much about the campaign and how the 25 year gap between Gears 3 and 4 would go, and it turns out that things have gotten much worse.
At least, in terms of the story; if nothing else, the Coalition knows how to make Gears 4 look and feel like a legitimate follow up. The style of the series is there, from the weapons and the cover combat to the inclusion of AI teammates to make you feel like you’re not alone in your fight against the Swarm. The new weather mechanics are a nice addition to the combat that allows you to shift the battle in your favor, even if that means the enemies could do the same to you. If there was any series that demands a crazy lightning hurricane while underground monsters shoot at you, this would be it. Plus, Old Man Marcus shows up! Wonder what he’s been up to!
