Star Trek Online has been around on PC for quite some time, but today, Arc Games revealed that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners will finally be able to join in on the action this year.
The news comes via a post on Arc Games’ website, stating that the MMO, now in its sixth year on PC, will be launching simultaneously on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sometime this Fall.
Talking about the console version, the post states that “Our goal is to deliver the same high-quality Star Trek experience to players on these consoles, with some additional upgrades to make the transition to the console space a smooth and natural experience.”
Of course, moving an MMO from a PC to consoles has a couple of issues in itself, namely controls. The post states that prior to any other work being done on the game, the development team made sure to get the controls right because “we knew the game had to be as tactical, fun, and accessible as the PC game that preceded it.” Therefore, to make playing Star Trek Online an equally enjoyable experience on consoles, players will use radial menus to navigate the multiple options, and will benefit from a streamlined HUD. The news of the announcement also came with an official console announcement trailer, which you can check out below.
