That’s gotta be a lotta copies, then.
Gearbox’s Battleborn has only been out a week, but it’s already off to a pretty good start in terms of sales. While having a Twitch stream, creative director Randy Varnell said that the game’s sales are ahead of the first Borderlands, which released back in 2009:
“Borderlands 1 went on to sell, I think, almost 7, 8 million units in its lifetime. Battleborn is actually tracking just ahead of where Borderlands was on the sales, and we think it’s going to be a game that is going to work like that. A decent, solid launch. We’re seeing steady and growing user counts on all three platforms, and hoping that word of mouth is going to take us even further.”
Varnell remains hopeful that the game’s growth will progress even higher in the coming future. The exact sales for the game haven’t been revealed for North America yet, though it did reach the top of the UK charts last week. 2K may possibly share sales numbers next week on May 18 when parent company Take-Two Interactive reports their earnings. Reviews for the game have been pretty good overall, and if the numbers are there, we may just see more badasses come our way.
