Well that would have been different!
It turns out that Uncharted 2 could have turned out very differently, according to a comment made by Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Director, Neil Druckmann.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Druckmann discussed the way in which Naughty Dog was brainstorming ideas for the second game in the series. According to Druckmann, it all starts off by bringing “as many to the table as possible.” These are then tested with a bunch of concept art and “story exploration” to see whether they’ve got the potential to go the distance as a plotline for a game.
Obviously, not everything does reach that point and ultimately one will come out on top. However, it sounds like Thor’s Hammer, Mjolnir, was something which kept Naughty Dog’s interest for a little while. “One we didn’t do I remember discussing for Uncharted 2 was Thor’s hammer. What would that mean to do Thor’s Hammer? We would actually do concept art and we got pretty deep down that road.”
Unfortunately, we never did get to search for Thor’s Hammer, and to be honest, it may have been all for the best. After all, Drake probably isn’t worthy enough to lift it. All that exploring only to find out you can’t snag the treasure at the very end.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is coming to PS4 on May 10 and will be the final chapter of Nathan Drake’s story. Will you be picking it up? Let us know in the comments below.
