Starting with a couple of honorable mentions, check out the Twinfinite’s Staff picks for our favorite games for March 2016 which includes of course, our Game of the Month!
Staff Writer Andy Ruiz: For a brand new fighting game series, Pokkén Tournament does a lot right. The Pokémon and Namco Bandai collaboration felt like an excellent way to usher in this year’s battalion of fighting games, providing a game that is accessible, yet complex and adorable. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by Pokkén when you first start, as it plays unlike any other fighting game, but once you get the basics down, it’s wholly unique, and satisfying.
Excellent tutorials smooth out the learning curve, and the mechanics are intricate enough that players will see themselves growing from every match. Finding the combos and fighting styles that suit their combat needs and predilections. It would have been nice to have had a larger roster of Pokémon contenders but, it is the first in what will hopefully become a series of fighting games. For a first entry, Namco Bandai’s expertise in the genre shine through marvelously, and this really feels like the Pokémon fighting game the world deserves.
