It’s been quite a while since Splatoon’s last splatfest for North America. The last one was mid-March and pitted teams Snowman vs Sandcastle, with Sandcastle ending up taking the win, despite Snowman’s larger popularity. Ever since, fans have been posting all sorts of drawings and messages on Splatoon’s Miiverse asking when the next Splatfest is.
Today, Nintendo of America answered those questions in one fell swoop, tweeting out official confirmation for the next Splatfest: Spongebob vs Patrick.

The voting begins within Splatoon tomorrow, although the specific time wasn’t specified. As always with Splatfests, players vote for their preference. While one side may get more votes and players behind it, the determining factor for the winner is whichever team wins the most matches and gets the highest battle score.
This specific Splatfest is also sort of extra fitting, considering Spongebob deals with underwater creatures, as does Splatoon. Does this make the Inklings Squidwards? The competition certainly doesn’t take long to heat up, as fans are already taking to that tweet to voice their opinions. Which side will you be on?
