Blizzard is at it again with yet another short movie chronicling the adventures of the characters from their upcoming multi-player shooter Overwatch. Carrying on in the tradition of the previous short film about character Winston, the latest one, following Widowmaker, is just as much of a spectacle, on par with some of the best animated films out there.
The short film itself features Widowmaker on a mission to assassinate a robot advocating for peace. Naturally, Tracer, another of the game’s characters, seeks to intervene and she and Widowmaker engage in an intense and wonderfully animated battle sequence.
Of course, these videos are not representative of what Overwatch’s gameplay will actually be like, but, boy, are these short movies fantastic. They are certainly depictive of the general aesthetic of what the developers are going for, and all signs point to excellence so far. We certainly look forward to many more of these short movies, in the same way we loved the Team Fortress 2 short movies that Valve has released over the last seven years. Hopefully, we can see Overwatch animations also grace us with their presences over the next few years just as well.
You can look forward to playing Overwatch when it finally hits stores on May 24th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. What do you think of these animated short films? Love ’em, hate ’em? Feel free to sound off in the comments below!
