It seems Nintendo is pleased with the seemingly ever-increasing popularity of Fire Emblem, as they are now considering it one of their ‘major IPs’.
Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima had a lot to say about the franchise, stating that “the latest title, Fire Emblem: Fates, is selling well in America and has found a wide audience outside of Japan as well.”
It seems the impressive sales are the reason that Nintendo is now holding the series in such high regard. Kimishima says: “We have also released many spin-off titles and related products, and this has become a major IP for Nintendo, both in name and in substance.
“This series has many passionate fans, particularly among gamers in their 20s and 30s.”
Fire Emblem continues to expand as a franchise, with Nintendo releasing a mobile app for the game in the future, alongside an Animal Crossing one. Fire Emblem was also featured heavily in the latest Super Smash Bros, boasting an impressive roster of 6 characters, including a character from Fire Emblem: Fates.
