In the Tekken series, the King of the Iron Fist tournament gathers the strongest fighters to compete for prize money and power. Bandai Namco are making that tournament real through a Tekken 7 tournament with a $30,000 prize pool.
Bandai Namco recently announced the King of the Iron Fist Tournament for Tekken 7. This will consist of 16 events in North America.
This tournament series is a collaboration with Wizard World, so a few qualifiers will happen at those conventions. Anyone can enter for free, but the winner is the only one who advances to the final event.
After these events conclude, all 16 tournament winners will go to the final event in North America. This tournament has a $30,000 prize pool, though it hasn’t been announced how the prize money will be split. Those who place higher are likely to get a larger share of the prize money.
Bandai Namco employee Mark Julio confirmed that the tournament will use on the arcade version of Tekken 7. The PlayStation 4 version currently has no release date, but the King of the Iron Fist Tournament will switch to PS4 once the game is released.
Tekken 7 is currently available in Japanese arcades, and is expected to launch on PlayStation 4 in 2016.
