The sci-fi RPG we’ve been waiting for?
Just a couple of days ago, I reported on the emergence of new screenshots and details about The Surge, the brand new sci-fi action RPG from the developers of Lords of the Fallen. The Surge takes place in a dystopian version of Earth where humanity has started to decay even after years of progression and advancements in technology. This new RPG is supposed to feature innovative combat where players can target specific body parts of enemies and slice them off. It also features a diverse upgrade system.
A 2-minute preview video has emerged, showing off some of said gameplay. Do take note that this is still a very early build of the game, and some details and features will undoubtedly be changed in the full release. You can check out the video below.
The gameplay shows off the player character slicing his mech enemies in half, with the occasional slow-mo effect whenever he lands what I’m assuming is the deathblow or critical hit. We also get a glimpse of how the health bar and stamina bar will look like in-game. Overall, the gameplay seems rather solid where you have to watch enemies’ movements and wait for safe openings, kind of like in the Souls games by From Software. Whether this game turns out of be the sci-fi Souls-like RPG that Souls fans have been wanting for a long time remains to be seen. But at least for now, it looks like it could be interesting.
The Surge is set to be released some time in 2017.
