The gaming industry is filled with great locations, some unworldly, and some that we all can relate to as real world locations. The Big Apple, a.k.a, New York City, is one of the more iconic and popular settings in all media, including video games. As we ran through the desolate streets of the city in The Division, we could not help but wonder what other games were set in the same city, and just how well did they pull it off.
Let’s kick this list off with the Crysis series. Although the first Crysis was set on a tropical island, Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 both took place in a deserted New York City, crumbling to the will of the Ceph. Crysis 2 takes the player through a more realistic iteration of New York City, with landmarks and locations on the brink of unrecognizable destruction. From Times Square to Central Park, the player explores some of the city’s most beloved areas.
When looking at Crysis 3, which takes place 24 years after the events of Crysis 2, New York is now a wasteland. The New York City Liberty Dome has turned the city into an urban rainforest filled with overgrown trees and plants, to the point where it is almost unrecognizable; a neat transformation of one of the world’s most metropolitan cities.
